H9. Domestic Violence

Please describe measures you have taken to ensure that an appropriate, safe and sensitive response can be implemented to support your staff in response to experience of stalking, violence or abuse in their lives, which has an effect on people in the workplace.
PHE signed the Domestic Violence pledge in November 2013 at the start of the 16 days of global action to end gender based violence, and followed the signature with a series of podcasts, videos and twitter messages.
PHE joined the Corporate Alliance Against Domestic Violence(CAADV) and have worked with them over the last year to raise awareness around Domestic Violence in our workforce.
CAADV presented to the corporate Health and Work board and delivered enhanced training to senior HR managers and the occupational health team.
PHE worked with CAADV to undertake an audit of HR policies to ensure that appropriate support is in place to support employees affected by domestic violence.
PHE has established a network of over 130 Workplace Wellbeing Champions, these are trained volunteers who help energise and activate health and wellbeing in our workplaces. The first cohort received domestic violence awareness training as part of their induction.
PHE has developed a series of all-staff and line manager briefings, which includes a set on domestic violence awareness, which will be launched in September 2014. We are also working on a set of internal videos to promote awareness across the organisation.
PHE has supported general awareness using our internal communication cascade to raise awareness and ensure access to signposting to support and advice through our intranet, employee assistance programme and internal network Yammer.
