Through your physical activity pledges you will be working with employees, customers/consumers and/or local communities. For each group (as applicable) please describe the specific activities or projects you have undertaken over the past year.
For example, employee incentive schemes to promote physical activity, awareness raising activities or improvements to facilites to promote active travel.
The Trust has a number of green travel initiatives which include promoting car share, cycling, walking and use of public transport. Reduced cost annual savings tickets can be purchased via the Trust for public transport. There is a Bike to Work scheme which provides leasing opportunities for cycles using salary sacrifice. Cycle lockers, showers and changing facilities are available on main sites. Car parking permits are only issued following a rigorous application process.
There is also a Staff Social Club with a fitness centre on the Freeman Hospital site u2013 another will be available soon on the Royal Victoria Infirmary site.
For example, supporting/sponsoring local physical activity programmes, promoting physical activity to customers through website campaigns or in-store materials.
Some specialist areas within the Trust have physical activity as part of their clinical pathway such as cardiac rehabilitation, pulmonary rehabilitation and for people undergoing hip/knee surgery. For other patients, referral can be made to Live Well (exercise on referral), Why Weight (weight management for adults) and On the Go (weight management for children) which are provided by Newcastle City Council - all three programmes incorporate physical activity.
For example, support for community-based physical activity programmes (such as funding, sponsorship or other promotion activity), working with local partners to engage communities is physical activity opportunities.
The Trust works with partners on the Wellbeing for Life Board in Newcastle to promote physical activity opportunities to local communities. The Trust Transport and Travel Advisor also links with local transport planners regarding accessibility to Trust sites.
Please estimate the number of your employees who report they are regularly using active modes of travel and explain how you arrived at this estimate.
It is unknown at this time how many employees use active modes of travel but this should be available by the next update as the Trust has just signed up to the Better Health at Work Award.
Has the number of your employees using active modes of travel increased since last year? If unkwown, please explain why:
This is unknown at present but should be available by the next update.
If your active travel pledge activities have focused on customers or local communities, have you observed or measured any increases in active travel in these groups? If yes, please provide details and where you have been able to measure this please explain how you arrived at this estimate.
This travel pledge is not focused on customers or local communites and is therefore not applicable.
We would be interested to know if your pledge activity over the last year has delivered a measurable increase in participation in physical activity. If so, please describe and provide an estimate of the level of increase and how you measured this. There is a 2000-character limit when completing this section.
