Please describe how you have encourged your staff to stop smoking and reduced other risks in the workplace to respiratory health over the last year. There is a 2000 character limit when completing this section.
At Mars we take associate health and wellbeing seriously. Our in-house workplace health programme aims to provide all of our employees with opportunities to be better informed about their health and help them to make choices about how to lead healthier lifestyles. The programme has 4 key pillars, 1 of which focuses on smoking cessation.
Mars is committed to support associates with smoking cessation. Over the last 12 months we have continued to provide access to smoking cessation information and local smoking cessation support groups, and supported and encouraged participation in national smoking cessation campaigns.
All of our sites supported once again Stoptober as an employer partner with co-branded posters and information up on all of the sites, and in addition 3 of our sites also provided 1:1 stop smoking services in the workplace. All UK sites also supported the British Heart Foundation's national No Smoking Day in March through various activities.
Our trial of designated onsite e-cigarette areas is ongoing. The business realises that this is not a recognised smoking cessation strategy but responded to requests from associates wanting to stop smoking and who felt that this would help to support them in this ambition.
We have had steady success in the number of associates who have quit smoking and we continue to track their progress. We have used their experiences to create motivational stories that have been shared to support and encourage other associates.
