P1. Physical Activity: Community
1 January, 2013
Submitted: 6 May, 2014
Through your physical activity pledges you will be working with employees, customers/consumers and/or local communities. For each group (as applicable) please describe the specific activities or projects you have undertaken over the past year.
For example, employee incentive schemes to promote physical activity, awareness raising activities or improvements to facilites to promote active travel.
We have continued to promote physical activity with our staff, regularly using the Change4Life campaign to support this. We have a well publicised and accessed 'cycle to work' scheme. In January 2014 GreaterSport launched 2 initiatives aimed at getting workplaces more active, which we promoted to our staff, including the Greater Manchester Workplace Challenge. In addition we publicised the NHS FunTri, whereby we encouraged staff to try something new and we continue with our "Wellbeing Wednesday's", sending out updates and messages on wellbeing matters, including suggestions for staff to increase their physical activity.
We continue to promote our partnership with Getting Manchester Moving to support the promotion of physical activity. We have engaged with our staff and have been running taster sessions for different types of exercise. We have regular staff football team which competes internally against different services / teams and also plays against other local NHS employers. We have promoted and encouraged participation in Manchester's Green Corridor Walking Circuit and promoted the 1st anniversary with staff participating in a 2 mile route. We have support staff to access a Physical Activity Referral Scheme (PARS) for people experiencing poor physical and/or mental wellbeing.
For example, supporting/sponsoring local physical activity programmes, promoting physical activity to customers through website campaigns or in-store materials.
For example, support for community-based physical activity programmes (such as funding, sponsorship or other promotion activity), working with local partners to engage communities is physical activity opportunities.
Please estimate the number of people that (a) participated in your community programmes:
Please estimate the number of people that (b) were more active as a result of participating:

We would be interested to know if your pledge activity over the last year has delivered a measurable increase in participation in physical activity. If so, please describe and provide an estimate of the level of increase and how you measured this. There is a 2000-character limit when completing this section.
