P4. Physical Activity in the Workplace
8 October, 2013
Submitted: 24 March, 2014
Through your physical activity pledges you will be working with employees, customers/consumers and/or local communities. For each group (as applicable) please describe the specific activities or projects you have undertaken over the past year.
For example, employee incentive schemes to promote physical activity, awareness raising activities or improvements to facilites to promote active travel.
Employees have been offered access to the cycle to work scheme. It is difficult with the nature of the business for a large number of employees to access it as a result of geography/length of travel to work. The business has a robust expenses policy which does not allow reimbursement for short journeys from train stations to the office.
A number of the staff are involved in charity sporting events such as the London Marathon which has encouraged colleagues to join in supporting the training and taking on smaller challenges.
The office has also invited colleagues to join a group for lunchtime walks for 20 to 30 minutes at a time.
For example, supporting/sponsoring local physical activity programmes, promoting physical activity to customers through website campaigns or in-store materials.
As part of the DHC wellbeing plan to clients we present events which assess physical wellbeing and encouraging competition between colleagues. The process has been encouraged where clients have introduced a small prize fund which helps increase/stimulate the interest.
For example, support for community-based physical activity programmes (such as funding, sponsorship or other promotion activity), working with local partners to engage communities is physical activity opportunities.
DNC has donated funds to a local primary school in Aberuthven to purchase new play equipment for the children, to encourage play and outdoor activity for the children.
Please estimate the number of your employees who participated in your workplace physical activity programmes over the last year and explain how you arrived at this estimate.
Has the number of your employees participating in your workplace physical activity programmes increased since last year? If unknown, please explain why.
We would be interested to know if your pledge activity over the last year has delivered a measurable increase in participation in physical activity. If so, please describe and provide an estimate of the level of increase and how you measured this. There is a 2000-character limit when completing this section.
