P4. Physical Activity in the Workplace

Through your physical activity pledges you will be working with employees, customers/consumers and/or local communities. For each group (as applicable) please describe the specific activities or projects you have undertaken over the past year.
For example, employee incentive schemes to promote physical activity, awareness raising activities or improvements to facilites to promote active travel.
Through our Wellbeing Programme and quarterly themes we have run pedometer challenges with various prizes to incentive staff to take part and improving their levels of physical activity during the length of the challenge.
We have educated employees in this matter and signposted them to various websites and information on the benefits of Physical activity. We link to this through our Wellbeing webpage which has a specific Fitness area as well as sending out communications centrally.
Sites have started up a variety of walking clubs at lunch time. There was some running workshops and running shops that came to sites as part of a wellbeing event. The gave advise on running technique and suitable products.
There has been a variety of exercise classes run at sites, including Zumba and circuits as well as more lower intensity/relaxation classes, such as Yoga or Pilates.
Posters have been put up with local walk routes and walk to work week has been promoted across all UK sites.
Local gyms came to site and talked to employees about exercise and the importance of adding this in to their daily routine.
Desk exercises have been provided and employees are encourage to get up from their desks and move more.
We promote government guidelines and even added this into our company induction as part of the Wellbeing and team engagement session.
For example, supporting/sponsoring local physical activity programmes, promoting physical activity to customers through website campaigns or in-store materials.
For example, support for community-based physical activity programmes (such as funding, sponsorship or other promotion activity), working with local partners to engage communities is physical activity opportunities.
Please estimate the number of your employees who participated in your workplace physical activity programmes over the last year and explain how you arrived at this estimate.
4500 approx- This is the amount of employees who were commincated to through the Wellbeing programme centrally.
Has the number of your employees participating in your workplace physical activity programmes increased since last year? If unknown, please explain why.
This is hard to measure as employees may go off and do their own thing, such as follow a walk route at lunch time.
We would be interested to know if your pledge activity over the last year has delivered a measurable increase in participation in physical activity. If so, please describe and provide an estimate of the level of increase and how you measured this. There is a 2000-character limit when completing this section.
We have no doubt raised awareness of physically activity in the workplace and will continue to do this through the Wellbeing Programme.
